The white is an expression of the Maison, more emotional than strategic, a symbol of unity and purity, the fragility of the passage of time.

White is also chosen as a sort of "blanket", a cover that allows details to exist.

Maison Martin Margiela's stores have always been fitted with furniture and objects found across Europe of many epoques and styles.

Once painted in white these disparate objects become "one", in a similar way to the members of the retail store team- all of many nationalities - once they wear their white gowns ("blouses blanches").

It is never just white but whites, all the shades possible; and usually matt white so that the passage of time is even more evide.
